About Patricia Walker
“The aim of art is not to represent the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” – Aristotle
Committing to her intense passion for art at a very young age, Patricia Walker was raised in rural Tennessee and those strong Southern roots are often evident in her work such as her landscape paintings which are nostalgic and haunting. Patricia left her quiet rural past behind and relocated to New Orleans as a young adult. While immersing herself in New Orleans’s culture, she pursued her passion for fine art at John McCready Art School and in the Newcomb Art Department at Tulane University.
Free from the heavy-handed societal norms that were a part of small-town life allowed her creativity to evolvintensify, demonstrated through her phantasmagorical explorations of reality. As her artistry evolved, French Quarter influences began to appear in her surrealistic paintings such as “The Prophecy” and “French Market.” These paintings portray exuberances for life and freedom of expression coupled with allegorical darkness, similar to the feeling one might get while strolling underneath the gas lamps of the French Quarter in a bygone era.
Patricia continued her career in fine art with the opening of her much-beloved “Gallery and Company” on St. Charles Avenue in New Orleans. Each day brought joy as she took the streetcar to the gallery, drawing on inspiration from the scenery of the Crescent City. After several years of running a successful business, Patricia decided to close the gallery to solely focus on her art while exclusively accepting commissions from private collectors. This newfound freedom initiated a prolific burst of creative energy that continuously fed her voracious appetite to paint. Her beautiful works continually immerse us in new and wondrous worlds of color, form and texture while coaxing us into the shared experience of her vision.
Patricia now splits her time between New Orleans and Nashville, and she continues to create works of art celebrating her interpretation of life, the world in which she lives, and the natural beauty contained within it.
